IV European Games 2027 Approved for Istanbul
The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine has confirmed that the IV European Games will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from June 16 to June 27, 2027, serving as a crucial qualifier for European athletes aiming for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
According to a statement from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, the IV European Games are set to occur in Istanbul, Turkey, from June 16 to June 27, 2027. These games will be a significant milestone in the qualification process for European athletes competing for spots in the upcoming Summer Olympics scheduled for 2028 in Los Angeles.
The IV European Games will feature competitions in 26 sports, with 22 of those being Olympic disciplines that align with the program for the forthcoming Los Angeles Games. This highlights the importance of these competitions for athletes striving to secure quotas for Olympic participation.
The official program for the IV European Games includes a wide array of sports, such as badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, coastal rowing, canoeing, water sports, volleyball, gymnastics, judo, karate, kickboxing, athletics (European Team Championships), Muay Thai, table tennis, padel, rugby sevens, squash, sport climbing, shooting sports, archery, modern pentathlon, triathlon, taekwondo, and fencing.
Notably, for the first time in the history of the European Games, coastal rowing, weightlifting, and squash will be featured, with squash also making its debut at the 2028 Olympic Games. This development opens new opportunities for athletes specializing in these disciplines.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that after being absent from the 2023 Games held in Krakow, sports such as gymnastics, volleyball, and wrestling will return to the program. This indicates a resurgence of interest in these disciplines and their significance within the context of European sports.
Since its inaugural participation in the European Games, the National Team of Ukraine has achieved remarkable results, securing a total of 139 medals, including 45 gold, 43 silver, and 51 bronze. These accomplishments underscore the high level of preparation among Ukrainian athletes and their competitiveness on the international stage.
The inclusion of such a vast number of sports and the return of popular disciplines will undoubtedly enhance interest in the IV European Games in Istanbul.
