Attempt on Sternenko: Case Against Russian Agent Goes to Court
The case of a woman who attempted to assassinate Ukrainian activist Serhiy Sternenko has been sent to court, according to reports from the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine.
The case of a woman who attempted to take the life of Ukrainian activist Serhiy Sternenko has been officially transferred to court, as confirmed by the press services of the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine. According to the investigation, the incident occurred on May 1, 2025, when the woman, acting on instructions from representatives of the Russian Federation, arrived at a predetermined location in Kyiv. She awaited the arrival of the victim and, upon his arrival, fired three targeted shots from a pistol.
As a result of these shots, Serhiy Sternenko sustained a penetrating gunshot wound to the thigh. However, the accused was unable to carry out the crime to completion, and her actions were interrupted. The investigation established that the woman acted in collusion with a group of individuals and was executing an order aimed at assisting Russia in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine under conditions of martial law.
During searches of her apartment, a mobile phone containing evidence of her work for the Russian Federation was discovered, along with components for a homemade explosive device that she had stored in another apartment. This indicates that the woman was part of a larger network aimed at destabilizing the situation in Ukraine.
The woman faces several serious charges, including treason, attempted murder committed for hire with selfish motives, and illegal possession of weapons. These charges underscore the gravity of her actions and the intentions she harbored.
It is important to recall that on May 1, 2025, Serhiy Sternenko was attacked, resulting in injuries that required surgery. This incident sparked widespread public outcry, as Sternenko is a well-known activist fighting for human rights and against corruption in Ukraine.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained the attacker, marking a significant step in the investigation of this crime. Notably, on March 24, 2026, it was reported that a network of Russian agents had been neutralized, comprising ten individuals who were spying on the Defense Forces and preparing contract killings of public figures, including volunteer Serhiy Sternenko and fighter Illya Bohdanov.
These events highlight the serious threat posed by hostile elements in Ukraine, as well as the necessity for enhanced security measures to protect citizens. The situation remains tense, and Ukrainian law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to prevent similar crimes in the future.
