Ukrainian Startups Receive €12 Million Through Seeds of Bravery Project
On December 20, 2023, Ukraine launched the Seeds of Bravery project aimed at supporting technology businesses amidst the ongoing war, culminating in a significant achievement for the country's startup ecosystem.
On December 20, 2023, Ukraine officially commenced the Seeds of Bravery project, an initiative designed to bolster technology businesses in the challenging environment of war. The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine announced the successful conclusion of this critical initiative, which spanned two and a half years. During this period, a remarkable 318 startups were able to secure funding, establish partnerships with European counterparts, and scale their products into new markets.
The total amount raised by Ukrainian businesses through this project reached an impressive €12 million. These funds have become a vital resource for fostering innovation in Ukraine, particularly as the country faces numerous challenges due to the ongoing conflict.
Throughout the implementation of the project, Ukrainian innovators had the opportunity to attend 34 international conferences, providing them with a platform to showcase their ideas and products on the global stage. Additionally, they gained access to 61 coworking spaces across Europe, which facilitated the growth of their businesses. The project organized over 600 meetings with potential clients and engaged 2,430 European investors and corporations, highlighting the active efforts made to attract investment.
Beyond funding, the project also enabled 236 researchers to participate in entrepreneurial programs, with one-fifth of them already launching their own tech projects. This demonstrates that Seeds of Bravery not only supports startups but also fosters the development of new ideas and innovations within Ukraine. Furthermore, an additional 100 entrepreneurs enhanced their leadership skills through the FEL program, increasing their competitiveness in the international market.
The Seeds of Bravery project was realized through the collaborative efforts of a large consortium of partners from Ukraine and the European Union, including organizations such as FundingBox, the Ukrainian Startup Fund (USF), CyberInnovate, INNOV8, EIT Health, Plug and Play, Aalto University, and many other accelerators and hubs. This collaboration was a crucial factor in the successful execution of the project and the support of Ukrainian startups.
It is important to note that Seeds of Bravery is part of a larger €20 million initiative funded by the European Union. Its goal is to systematically build the Ukrainian deep tech industry, which is a significant step towards integrating Ukraine into the European technological landscape.
In conclusion, it is noteworthy that the European Commission recently introduced a new funding instrument called AGILE, valued at €115 million, aimed at the rapid implementation of revolutionary defense technologies. This reflects the European Union's active support for Ukraine during the war and its commitment to the development of innovative technologies.
