Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office Reviews 366 Extradition Requests in Past Year

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (OPG) has released new information regarding extradition requests, revealing that it reviewed 366 such requests over the past year.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine (OPG) has made public new information concerning extradition requests in a report for the media, which was submitted to the Ukrinform agency. According to the data, in the 12 months of the previous year, the OPG reviewed a total of 366 requests related to extradition. Among these, 312 requests originated from Ukrainian authorities, while 54 requests were received from competent institutions in other countries.

It is noted that as a result of reviewing these requests, the OPG sent inquiries to 36 states. The highest number of requests, specifically 113, was sent to Poland. Germany received 56 requests, Spain received 19, Italy received 17, Austria received 13, the Czech Republic received 9, while Slovakia and Romania each received 7 requests, and France received 6 requests.

Throughout 2024, the OPG continues its active work in this area, having already reviewed 268 extradition requests. This demonstrates a constant monitoring and response to inquiries coming from various countries, as well as the importance of international cooperation in combating criminal activities.

Furthermore, it is important to highlight that the Office of the Prosecutor General recently sent a request for the extradition of Timur Mindich to Israel. Mindich is a figure in the 'Midas' case of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The spokesperson for the Prosecutor General's Office, Maryana Haiovska-Kovbasyuk, commented to Ukrinform that during the processing of the NABU request, a number of procedural and technical deficiencies were identified.

She clarified that in a collaborative effort, the Office of the Prosecutor General, together with NABU, conducted thorough work, resulting in the completion of 24 volumes of materials. Additionally, the text of the extradition request was prepared and translated. After all deficiencies and errors were finally rectified, the request for Mindich's extradition was sent to the Ministry of Justice of the State of Israel.

This situation underscores the importance of proper document preparation and adherence to all legal norms when submitting extradition requests, as any mistakes can delay the process and complicate international cooperation in the fight against corruption and crime.

It is worth recalling that extradition is a vital tool in the fight against international crime, and the OPG is actively working to enhance mechanisms for cooperation with other countries. Join our channels on Telegram, Instagram, and YouTube to stay updated on the latest news and events.
