Yulia Svyrydenko Discusses Urgent Legislation with MPs for EU and IMF Funding

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko held a crucial meeting with the heads of parliamentary committees to discuss urgent legislation essential for securing funding from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.

On April 6, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko conducted an important meeting with the leaders of the Verkhovna Rada committees, where they discussed urgent legislative initiatives that are critical for obtaining financial support from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. This meeting was reported by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Svyrydenko emphasized that to ensure stable international financing, particularly under the Ukraine Facility program and the IMF program, Ukraine must complete its 'homework' in the area of reforms. She underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between parliament and government in this process, stating, 'The key role in this is joint: of the parliament and the government.'

The Prime Minister also noted that she discussed with the Members of Parliament (MPs) key provisions necessary for continuing reforms, fulfilling commitments to international partners, and further advancing Ukraine's Euro-integration course. She reached an agreement with the MPs that urgent legislative initiatives, on which there is mutual understanding, will be included in the agenda.

Regarding other legislative proposals that are still under discussion, Svyrydenko mentioned that consultations will continue. These measures are part of the government's efforts to ensure the financial stability of the country amid the challenges facing Ukraine.

It is worth recalling that on April 3, the head of the 'Servant of the People' faction, David Arakhamia, stated that the delay of the €90 billion loan from the EU, which has been blocked by Hungary, requires decisive action from the Ukrainian government. 'We need to take a decisive step forward to obtain what is necessary for Ukraine,' emphasized Arakhamia.

Additionally, on April 1, Andriy Motovylovets, the deputy head of the 'Servant of the People' faction, noted that MPs will focus on reviewing three tax legislative proposals introduced by the Cabinet of Ministers. These proposals concern taxation on digital platforms (Bill No. 15111, known as the OLX law), extending the military tax of 5% for three more years (Bill No. 15110), and abolishing VAT exemptions on imported packages valued up to €150 (Bill No. 15112).

Member of Parliament from the 'Voice' party, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, expressed his predictions regarding the support for these legislative proposals. He believes that the parliament is likely to support the adoption of the bills concerning taxation on digital platforms and the extension of the military tax. However, he expressed skepticism about the chances of passing the bill on taxation of packages, indicating the presence of certain disagreements among the deputies.
