European Commission Allocates €20 Million for 41 Ukrainian Startup and SME

The European Commission has announced a significant funding initiative, allocating €20 million to support 41 Ukrainian startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as part of its innovation support program.

The European Commission, as part of its innovation support program, has declared the allocation of €20 million in funding for 41 Ukrainian startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This decision was made possible through the initiative of the European Innovation Council (EIC), which aims to foster the development of innovative ideas in Ukraine.

According to a statement from the EIC, the purpose of this funding is to assist Ukrainian companies in transforming their innovative ideas into tangible solutions that can be implemented in the market. Each of the recipient companies will receive between €300,000 and €500,000, along with expedited access to the EIC Accelerator program. This program offers larger grants and equity investments through the EIC Fund, opening new opportunities for Ukrainian enterprises.

The announcement also emphasizes that funding from the European Union will help overcome the critical funding shortfall that exists in Ukraine. This will enable pioneers in deep tech to transition from early-stage development to market-ready implementation of their solutions in vital sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, cybersecurity, and others.

Furthermore, this funding will promote the integration of Ukrainian startups into the European innovation ecosystem, which, in turn, will strengthen Ukraine's long-term economic alignment with European Union standards. This is an important step in the development of the Ukrainian economy and in supporting innovations that can significantly impact the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.

According to previously published data, the number of Ukrainian specialists in the field of artificial intelligence has increased by 17% over the past two years, currently totaling around 6,100 professionals. This reflects Ukraine's growing potential in this crucial sector, attracting the attention of investors and international partners.

Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine reported that the country ranks second in Southeast Europe in terms of the number of companies operating in the field of artificial intelligence. This indicates the active development of technological startups and innovative solutions in Ukraine.

In conclusion, a new grant program for startups was launched in Ukraine in December 2025, further underscoring the government's commitment to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. This program aims to provide additional resources for the development of young companies and facilitate their entry into international markets.
