In her recent post on social media platform X, European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, shared positive updates regarding legislative changes in Ukraine, highlighting significant laws passed by the Verkhovna Rada that are directly related to reforms connected to the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. This development indicates active progress towards Ukraine's Euro-integration, which is a crucial step in the context of stabilizing the country's economy.
Kos emphasized that the newly adopted laws will help unlock over 2 billion euros, which are critically important for meeting Ukraine's liquidity needs by summer. This funding will serve as a vital resource for maintaining economic stability, especially as the country faces numerous challenges related to the ongoing war and its consequences.
A significant part of her statement included gratitude towards the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, for their leadership in this process. Kos noted that their efforts demonstrate Ukraine's unwavering commitment to the European course, highlighting the importance of political will in implementing reforms.
Among the laws approved by the parliament is a law that enhances state control over the quality and safety of products. This legislation not only expands oversight on e-commerce but also harmonizes regulations with European Union standards, marking an important step towards integrating Ukrainian legislation with European norms.
Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka, reported that the European Union has a positive stance on most of Ukraine's requests for transition periods for implementing European legislation. This pertains to crucial aspects such as environmental protection, energy efficiency, and food security, indicating the EU's readiness to support Ukraine in its European aspirations.
It is worth recalling that earlier, Ukraine received from the European Union the conditions for accession across all major negotiation clusters, including 'Fundamentals of the EU Accession Process', 'Internal Market', 'External Relations', 'Competitiveness and Inclusive Development', 'Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity', as well as 'Resources, Agriculture, and Cohesion Policy'. However, despite these positive steps, Hungary is blocking the official opening of negotiations, raising concerns among Ukrainian politicians and experts.
Thus, the progress made by the Verkhovna Rada serves as an important signal not only for Ukraine but also for international partners who are monitoring developments in the country. This also underscores the importance of continuing reforms and integration into European structures, which remain key to Ukraine's stability and prosperity in the future.
