Exhibition 'Icons of Peace' in Paris: Ukrainian Artists Transform Ammo Boxes into Symbols of Hope
An important event for Ukrainian culture took place in the French capital, Paris, with the opening of the exhibition 'Icons of Peace,' where Ukrainian artists transformed ammunition boxes into symbols of hope.
In the French capital, Paris, a significant event for Ukrainian culture occurred with the opening of the exhibition 'Icons of Peace.' This exhibition showcases the remarkable work of Ukrainian artists who have ingeniously transformed ammunition boxes into powerful symbols of hope. According to reports from Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Cultural Center in France (Centre Culturel d'Ukraine en France) announced the event on its Facebook page.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition attracted numerous guests, including Ukraine's Ambassador to France, Vadym Omelchenko, co-director of the research department 'Politics and Religion,' Antoine Arzhakovsky, and artist and writer Sonya Atlantova, who is a direct participant in the project. The exhibition is organized with the support of the French Institute and the Ukrainian Institute in France, highlighting the importance of cultural ties between the two countries.
A distinctive feature of the icons on display is the material from which they are created—wooden lids from ammunition boxes. Artists Oleksandra Klymenko and Herman Klymenko aim to convey deep symbolism through their work. 'By using fragments marked by war, particularly ammunition boxes, the artists create icons that carry memory, peace, and hope. Their creativity embodies the human ability to transform destruction into creation and suffering into meaning,' noted the exhibition organizers.
In addition to its artistic value, the project also possesses a therapeutic dimension. It contributes to the process of mental recovery and a deeper understanding of the tragedy of war through spiritual art. This aspect is particularly crucial as many individuals are grappling with the consequences of war, making art an essential tool for overcoming trauma.
The 'Icons of Peace' exhibition is taking place at the Bernardines College and will run for a week until April 6. Visitors can explore the exhibition from Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. This presents a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested to engage with the creativity of Ukrainian artists and feel the depth of their ideas.
The 'Icons of Peace' project has already gained recognition in many countries around the world as a powerful instrument of cultural diplomacy, vividly demonstrating the resilience of the Ukrainian spirit. It not only emphasizes the importance of art in times of war but also serves as a reminder of the necessity for peace and unity.
It is worth noting that recently, a meeting was held in Paris as part of the Liberté & Tradition exhibition, where renowned Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard presented his works dedicated to Ukraine and solidarity among nations. These events reflect the active cultural engagement that unites different nations and fosters mutual understanding.
