The Impact of Russia's War on Everyone: What Awaits the World

The pressing question among political experts remains: how will Russia's war in Ukraine conclude? To answer this, one must first understand the motivations behind Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and the onset of its full-scale war on February 24, 2022.

At a press conference following a summit in Alaska with U.S. President Donald Trump on August 15, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated, "The situation in Ukraine is linked to fundamental threats to our security... We are convinced that in order to make the settlement lasting and long-term, we need to eliminate all the main roots, the fundamental causes of this conflict, and we have repeatedly talked about this to take into account all legitimate concerns of Russia and restore a fair balance of security in Europe and in the world overall."

Before the full-scale war against Ukraine began, on December 17, 2021, Russia proposed agreements to NATO and the United States regarding 'security' in a Yalta-style framework. The draft 'Agreement on Measures to Ensure the Security of the Russian Federation and the Member States of the North Atlantic Treaty' stipulated that: "The Russian Federation and all parties that were member states of the North Atlantic Treaty as of May 27, 1997, respectively, shall not deploy military forces and weapons on the territory of any other states in Europe, except for the forces that were on that territory as of May 27, 1997. With the consent of all parties, such deployments may occur in exceptional cases to eliminate the threat to the security of one or several parties..."

These statements from Putin and Russia's proposals indicate the Kremlin's deep concerns regarding security and influence in the region. They suggest that it is crucial for Russia not only to protect its interests but also to restore its status as a great power entitled to influence the policies of neighboring countries. This situation raises alarms not only in Ukraine but across the globe, as the consequences of the war could be far-reaching.

The war in Ukraine continues to have serious ramifications for international politics and economics. Western countries, particularly the United States and European Union nations, are actively supporting Ukraine by providing military and humanitarian aid. This underscores the importance of unity within the international community in confronting aggression and defending the sovereignty of states.

Furthermore, the war is causing significant economic repercussions, especially for the energy market. Ukraine continues to strike at Russian energy infrastructure, particularly in the Baltic region between St. Petersburg and the Finnish border. This indicates that the conflict is not only affecting the political landscape but also the economic stability of the region.

The conclusions drawn from the current situation suggest that Russia's war in Ukraine will not only impact the fate of Ukraine itself but also the entire world. The outcomes of this conflict could alter the balance of power in Europe and beyond, necessitating careful observation and analysis by the international community.
