Enemy Attacks Sumy: High-Rise Building on Fire in the City Center

In the early hours of April 4, 2023, Russian occupation forces executed attacking strikes on the residential sector in the central part of Sumy. This tragic incident led to a fire in a high-rise residential building, prompting panic among local residents.

According to information provided by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleg Grygoriv, it has been preliminarily established that Russian forces utilized strike drones (UAVs) to carry out attacks on the regional center. Grygoriv noted that as a result of the attack, the upper floors of a residential high-rise building located in the Zarichne district of the city caught fire.

The acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, confirmed this information, stating that three powerful explosions were heard throughout the city. He reported that one of the UAVs struck an apartment building in the Zarichne district, which was the cause of the fire. Kobzar also mentioned that another strike was recorded in the courtyard of the same district, indicating the scale of the attack.

According to the head of the Sumy City Military Administration, Serhiy Kryvosheyenko, the strike occurred on the 13th floor of a 16-story residential building in the center of Sumy. This underscores the seriousness of the situation, as the fire engulfed a significant portion of the upper floors of the building, necessitating urgent measures to extinguish the flames and rescue people.

Local emergency services promptly responded to the incident, dispatching fire brigades to extinguish the fire and rescue residents who may have been trapped in their apartments. As of the morning of April 4, rescuers continued to work at the scene, attempting to mitigate the aftermath of the attack and ensure the safety of residents.
