Military Personnel Aged 18-25 to Receive One-Year Post-Contract Deferment - Fedorov

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov took to Facebook to share an important update for young servicemen. Effective immediately, military personnel aged between 18 and 25 who have signed a contract to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive a guaranteed deferment from conscription for one year following the completion of their service. This initiative is the result of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Defense and the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, which have finalized the relevant resolution that is now fully implemented.

Fedorov emphasized that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the mechanism for processing this deferment. "Military personnel aged 18-25 who have signed a one-year contract with the Defense Forces and are discharged after its completion will receive a guaranteed deferment from conscription. This is now a fully operational tool that works in practice," he stressed. The deferment is effective for 12 months post-discharge, during which conscription can only occur with the serviceman's consent.

This announcement has been welcomed by many young individuals planning to enlist with military formations. It provides them with the opportunity to transition back to civilian life after their service without the fear of being called up for duty. Servicemen will be able to exercise this right to seek employment, pursue further education, or attend to personal matters without pressure from military structures.
