In a recent interview with RBC-Ukraine, Military Ombudsman Olga Kobylinska (Reshetylova) disclosed alarming facts regarding abuses within the military sector, particularly schemes involving fictitious 'frontlines'. According to her, these actions constitute criminal offenses, and the Ombudsman's Office is promptly forwarding this information to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.
Kobylinska emphasized that entire units have been misusing combat resources, which raises serious concerns. "We have such information; this is a criminal offense, and we are redirecting this information to law enforcement agencies. Unfortunately, there have been entire units that have abused the use of combat resources. But I know that both the General Staff and law enforcement are fighting against this," she stated.
The Military Ombudsman also highlighted that servicemen, regardless of their place of service, must be prepared to carry out tasks in combat zones. "If you serve in the military, no matter what task you are performing, you must be ready to execute tasks in combat zones. And this does not mean automatic death or injury, absolutely not," she stressed.
Kobylinska noted that the primary professional risks for every soldier remain death, severe injury, or captivity. She emphasized that the best way to minimize these threats is through a high level of training and professional education. Specifically, new military personnel are stabilized from a psychological perspective, informed about basic matters such as the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, their rights, and preparation for risks.
"The better the training, the less significant these risks will be. Furthermore, this risk for servicemen is relevant throughout the entire territory of Ukraine and, as we understand, even beyond its borders, as our contingents are currently present in the Middle East. Therefore, the state has special social and legal guarantees for military personnel and their families. This is why society must particularly respect the service of military personnel, as it is a job with increased risk," she added.
It is worth noting that recently, law enforcement agencies dismantled a mobilization evasion scheme at the Main Military Clinical Hospital. This event once again underscores the importance of monitoring compliance with legislation in the military sector and the necessity of ensuring justice for all servicemen.
