Russian Forces Launch Combined Attacks on Kharkiv for Second Consecutive Day, 18 Locations Hit
Kharkiv is enduring severe attacks from Russian forces for the second consecutive day, marking one of the most intense bombardments since the start of the large-scale war, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
In a statement on his Telegram channel, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that the city is facing brutal assaults from Russian military forces that have continued for two days. He noted that this series of shelling has become one of the most massive in the history of the ongoing conflict and the most severe since the beginning of the year. The aggressor is utilizing ballistic missiles and various drones, causing significant destruction.
Terekhov highlighted that there have been 37 recorded strikes across 18 locations in the city. He emphasized that the enemy has for the first time employed combat reactive drones, which, due to their speed characteristics, significantly complicate the work of air defense systems. 'Just imagine the scale of what is flying over our heads: 37 strikes recorded across 18 locations,' he wrote in his post.
According to the mayor, as of the morning of April 2, 25 residential high-rise buildings and three non-residential structures have been damaged. The Kyiv district has suffered the most, where a direct hit occurred in an apartment between the second and third floors of a high-rise. 'In just one building, about 300 windows were shattered. A number of other buildings and infrastructure objects have been devastated,' Terekhov explained.
In the Osnovyansky district, an office building caught fire overnight, with the roof completely burned off, and a powerful shockwave shattered windows in a nearby church. In the Novobavarsky district, shelling has led to damage to private homes, but municipal services are already working on restoration efforts.
'Across the city, over 500 windows have been shattered. Inspections are ongoing, so the number will increase. The volume of emergency recovery work is simply staggering,' the mayor emphasized. He also added that Russian forces are striking the same locations multiple times, complicating the recovery process.
'Yesterday morning, the guys barely managed to board up a hole in one of the buildings, and by evening, it was hit again, so we had to start all over again. But behind all this destruction lies total exhaustion. The sirens have been almost non-stop for a long time. Living under such psychological pressure and constant danger is extremely difficult for everyone. But Kharkiv is holding on thanks to its people,' Terekhov noted.
The mayor also stressed that rescuers, medics, municipal workers, and repair crews are 'working at the limits of their capabilities,' effectively in four shifts, to cope with the aftermath of the attacks.
As reported by Ukrinform, as a result of Russian attacks on the night of April 3, five people were injured in Kharkiv, including an infant. During the day on April 3, following a strike in the Shevchenkivskyi district, seven people were injured, one of whom later died in the hospital from their injuries.
