The enemy has learned to create appropriate groupings and quickly transfer forces from one flank to another,” he said. “A significant amount of effort and resources are being devoted to building this line as quickly as possible – to avoid surprises and prevent the enemy from threatening our country from this direction,” Sirotenko added. AFU’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky said on April 22 that Russia is regrouping its units and moving reserves to the front, potentially indicating preparations for new offensive operations. According to him, Russian forces continue attempts to advance and aim to seize not only the Donbas but all of Ukraine. The DeepState project has also reported that Russia is continuing efforts to establish a “buffer zone” along the border in the Sumy region. Joint Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi said Russia is attempting to create such a zone in both Sumy and Kharkiv regions by trying to capture border villages. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday Ukrainian intelligence has obtained internal Russian military documents showing that the Russian General Staff acknowledges it is failing to meet Kremlin-set objectives, as Ukraine continues to degrade Russia’s offensive capacity. He said Ukraine’s Defense Forces are inflicting heavy losses on Russian troops, with irrecoverable losses approaching 60% of total casualties – undermining Moscow’s ability to sustain offensive operations. Despite this, Zelensky warned that Russia’s political leadership is preparing new offensives and may expand mobilization to generate additional manpower. “Accordingly, Ukraine’s task is to further increase the share of irrecoverable losses inflicted on the occupier,” he said, adding that Kyiv will intensify drone use along the front line and expand long-range sanctions targeting Russia’s weapons production and oil sector. Zelensky also said Ukraine will brief its partners on intelligence indicating Moscow is developing plans for operations against NATO countries and seeking to draw Belarus deeper into the war.
