Visa and RozetkaPay Launch Biometric Authentication for Online Payments

Visa, a global leader in electronic payments, has partnered with RozetkaPay, part of the EVO Group, to introduce a new solution called Visa Payment Passkey in Ukraine. This innovative technology allows users to authenticate their purchases using biometric methods such as fingerprint or facial recognition, replacing traditional passwords and one-time SMS codes.

Visa, renowned worldwide as a leader in electronic payments, has announced a significant advancement in online transaction security with the launch of the Visa Payment Passkey in collaboration with RozetkaPay, a subsidiary of the EVO Group. This new solution enables users to confirm their purchases through biometric methods, such as fingerprint scanning or facial recognition, rather than relying on conventional passwords and one-time SMS codes.

According to representatives from Visa in comments made to NV Business, this cutting-edge technology will greatly simplify the authentication process in e-commerce, reducing the reliance on passwords and one-time codes. Tatiana Chorna, Vice President and Regional Manager of Visa in Ukraine, emphasized, “Together with RozetkaPay, we are helping to simplify authentication in e-commerce by decreasing the use of passwords and one-time codes.”

The Visa Payment Passkey is built on FIDO (Fast Identity Online) standards, which ensure a high level of authentication security by linking it to the user's specific device. This approach aims to enhance resilience against phishing, data interception, and theft, which are pressing issues in today’s digital landscape.

After a one-time registration process, users will be able to utilize the Visa Payment Passkey across all merchant platforms that have already integrated this solution. This means that shoppers will be able to make online payments more quickly and securely, which could positively impact order conversion rates for businesses.

Representatives from RozetkaPay also noted that the new method of payment confirmation is expected to streamline the payment process for end consumers. This could be a crucial factor in the growth of online commerce in Ukraine, where an increasing number of people are opting for online shopping.

As a global leader in the electronic payments industry, Visa processes billions of payment transactions annually between consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and government organizations in over 200 countries. This underscores the importance of implementing new technologies that can enhance the security and convenience of electronic payments.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, NV reported that Visa Direct is integrating stablecoins, reflecting the company's ongoing development and adaptation to new market conditions.

In January 2026, Visa, in collaboration with payment provider PSP Platon (LLC Online Payments), completed the integration of the Visa Payment Passkey solution in Ukraine. This solution allows the confirmation of online payments using biometric data or other device unlocking methods without the need to enter one-time codes and passwords.
