Visa and RozetkaPay Launch Biometric Authentication for Online Payments

Visa, a global leader in electronic payments, has partnered with RozetkaPay, part of the EVO Group, to introduce an innovative solution called Visa Payment Passkey in Ukraine. This new feature allows users to confirm their online purchases using biometric data such as fingerprints or facial recognition, moving away from traditional passwords and one-time SMS codes.

Visa, a globally recognized leader in electronic payments, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with RozetkaPay, a member of the EVO Group, to launch the Visa Payment Passkey in Ukraine. This innovative solution enables users to authenticate their online purchases using biometric data, including fingerprints or facial recognition, rather than relying on conventional passwords and one-time SMS codes.

Tetyana Chorna, Vice President and Regional Manager of Visa in Ukraine, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, "Together with RozetkaPay, we are simplifying authentication in e-commerce by reducing the reliance on passwords and one-time codes, thus providing consumers with a seamless shopping experience." This initiative aims not only to ease the payment process for consumers but also to enhance the security of online transactions.

According to information provided in a press release, the Visa Payment Passkey has been developed based on FIDO (Fast Identity Online) standards, which ensure authentication linked to the user's device. This innovation is designed to improve resilience against phishing, data interception, and theft, which are pressing issues in today's digital landscape.

The process of utilizing the Visa Payment Passkey is straightforward and user-friendly: after a one-time registration, users can apply this technology across all merchant platforms that have already implemented this solution. This means that consumers will be able to make purchases more quickly and securely, without the hassle of remembering passwords or receiving one-time codes.

Representatives from RozetkaPay also highlighted that the new payment confirmation method will not only simplify the payment process for buyers but could significantly boost order conversion rates for entrepreneurs. This is particularly crucial in the context of increasing competition in e-commerce, where speed and convenience are key factors for success.

It is important to note that in January 2026, Visa, in collaboration with payment provider PSP Platon (LLC "Online Payments"), completed the integration of the Visa Payment Passkey solution for confirming online payments in Ukraine. This solution allows for the use of biometric data or other means to unlock devices without the need to enter one-time codes and passwords. This marks a significant step towards modernizing payment systems in Ukraine and enhancing their security.
