Ukrainian Parliament Establishes Temporary Investigative Commission to Probe Threats to Economic Security

The Ukrainian Parliament has passed a significant resolution to create a Temporary Investigative Commission (TIC) aimed at investigating actions by officials that may pose a threat to the country's economic security.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted an important resolution that establishes a Temporary Investigative Commission (TIC) to investigate the actions of officials that may threaten the economic security of Ukraine. This decision received support from 211 members of parliament, as reported by the Ukrinform news agency.

According to the adopted resolution, the newly formed Temporary Investigative Commission will focus on investigating potential illegal activities by officials working within state authorities, as well as other state bodies and enterprises belonging to the state sector of the economy. The primary goal of this commission is to identify actions that could have harmed the economic security of Ukraine.

The explanatory note accompanying the draft resolution states that the main tasks of the TIC include investigating possible illegal actions by officials from agencies such as the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the National Police, the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB), the State Customs Service, the State Tax Service, the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), the State Financial Monitoring Service, the State Audit Office, the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKP), as well as the State Border Guard Service. All these agencies may be implicated in actions that have harmed the economic security of the country.

Additionally, the TIC will gather information regarding technical assistance and loans provided to Ukraine by foreign and international organizations since the onset of the full-scale invasion. The commission will also analyze the status of Ukraine's obligations concerning these loans and assistance.

The head of the Temporary Investigative Commission is Yaroslav Zheleznyak, representing the Holos faction, while his deputy is Anastasia Radina from the Servant of the People faction. It is important to note that the adoption and implementation of this initiative aim to ensure effective parliamentary oversight through the investigation of potential illegal actions by officials.

It is expected that the activities of the TIC will allow for better monitoring of Ukraine's commitments to international and foreign organizations, which are essential for receiving international technical assistance and loans. This, in turn, will contribute to strengthening the economic security of the state, which is critically important in the face of current challenges.

Interestingly, a commission with a similar name previously existed in the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation, operating from March 12, 2025, to March 27, 2026. Currently, alongside the newly established TIC, there are 13 temporary investigative and special commissions functioning within the Verkhovna Rada, indicating the active work of the parliament in monitoring compliance with legality and economic security in Ukraine.
