The Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office has officially charged an inspector from the Lviv Customs with the murder of a serviceman from the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCRC). This tragic event unfolded on April 2 in Lviv, where servicemen from the Halytsko-Frankivsk Regional Territorial Center, along with police officers, were conducting a routine check of documents and notification measures.
According to information provided by law enforcement, a dispute arose between the notification group and those present during these checks. During the verbal conflict, a 28-year-old relative of the customs inspector, who found himself at the center of the events, began to flee. In an attempt to stop him, the serviceman engaged in a struggle.
At this critical moment, the inspector, trying to prevent the escape, pulled out an object resembling a knife from his chest bag and chased after the serviceman. Upon catching up with him, the inspector stabbed him multiple times in the chest and neck area. One of the stabs proved fatal, as the knife severed the carotid artery, resulting in immediate blood loss.
Unfortunately, the serviceman died en route to the hospital, failing to receive medical assistance in time. This incident has sparked significant public outcry, as it involves violence against a member of the armed forces who was fulfilling his duties.
Law enforcement officials reported that the 34-year-old assailant fled the scene in a vehicle with his brother. However, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the police, they were located and apprehended. The inspector from Lviv Customs has now been charged with the intentional murder of a person performing official duties, in accordance with paragraph 8 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Currently, authorities are determining the appropriate preventive measure for the suspect, which may include detention, as well as his suspension from duty. The State Customs Service has confirmed that the detained individual is an employee of the Lviv Customs, further underscoring the gravity of the situation.
This incident serves as another reminder of the importance of ensuring safety and law and order in society, especially in circumstances where servicemen are carrying out their responsibilities. The public is eagerly awaiting further developments in this case and just punishment for those responsible for this tragedy.
