EU Calls Strikes on Infrastructure Unacceptable Amid Trump's Threats to Iran

European Council President António Costa has made a significant statement emphasizing that any strikes on infrastructure, including energy facilities, are absolutely unacceptable. This information was reported by the publication "European Truth." Costa expressed his position on the social media platform X, stating that such aggression is illegal and cannot be justified in any context.
This comment from Costa comes in the wake of recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that the United States could strike Iran's power plants and bridges if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened. Costa stressed that "any strikes on civilian infrastructure, particularly energy facilities, are illegal and unacceptable." He also noted that this applies not only to Russia's war in Ukraine but to any situation where civilians suffer.
The President of the European Council highlighted that the civilian population of Iran is the primary victim of the Iranian regime, and in the event of an escalation of conflict, they will also become the main victims. "It is now clear that only a diplomatic solution can address the root causes of the conflict in the Middle East," Costa emphasized, calling for a peaceful resolution to the situation.
Costa also reminded that the European Union urges Iran to urgently cease attacks on regional countries and ensure the restoration of full freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. "Escalation of conflict will not lead to a ceasefire and peace. This can only be achieved through negotiations, specifically through the ongoing efforts made by regional partners," he added.
According to information obtained by the media, U.S. intelligence believes that Iran is unlikely to agree to open free passage for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Control over this strategically important artery for oil exports remains Iran's only real leverage in negotiations with the United States, complicating the possibility of reaching a compromise.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the U.S. and Iran received a framework plan from Pakistan regarding a ceasefire and subsequent peace agreement. This plan is expected to be agreed upon by April 6. However, it later became known that Iran rejected Pakistan's proposal to end the war with the U.S. and Israel, casting doubt on the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Thus, the situation in the Middle East remains tense, and calls for peace and diplomacy are becoming increasingly relevant amid the threat of escalating conflict. Costa, as a representative of the European Council, continues to advocate for peaceful conflict resolution and emphasizes the importance of dialogue between the parties.
