Uzhgorod Launches Public Initiative 'City of a Thousand Magnolias'

A new public initiative called 'City of a Thousand Magnolias' has been announced in Uzhgorod, aiming to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal and boost tourism by increasing the number of magnolia trees.

At a recent press conference, one of the initiators of the new project, Vladislav Slyvka, announced the launch of this intriguing public initiative. According to him, the goal of the project is to engage both visitors and residents of Uzhgorod in increasing the number of magnolias in the city. This effort is expected not only to improve the aesthetic appearance of Uzhgorod but also to contribute to the development of tourism.

"This is a social initiative aimed at involving guests and residents of Uzhgorod in increasing the number of magnolias in the city. We have printed a guide featuring the most interesting locations with magnolias in the city, and part of the proceeds from its sale will be directed towards purchasing new trees that residents can plant in their gardens," Slyvka emphasized, highlighting the importance of active community participation in the project's implementation.

Slyvka also added that the total number of magnolias in Uzhgorod has not yet been counted, as most of the trees grow in private yards across various districts of the city. The oldest magnolia tree in Uzhgorod, it has been revealed, is over 120 years old. This tree is located in the Laudon dendropark, which is one of the most beloved spots for visitors.

The 'City of a Thousand Magnolias' initiative is planned to span the next ten years, as noted by tourism expert Oleksandr Koval. He stated that this is a long-term project that will require effort from the community, but the results could be impressive. According to him, magnolias bloom one to two weeks earlier than cherry blossoms, and their flowering lasts about two weeks, making them particularly attractive to tourists during the spring season.

This initiative also underscores the importance of preserving natural heritage and developing ecological tourism in the region. As previously reported, there has been a peak in cherry blossom blooming in Transcarpathia, which has already attracted many tourists. Now, with this new initiative, Uzhgorod could become another significant center for nature and flower enthusiasts.

Engaging local residents in planting new magnolias will not only improve the ecological situation in the city but also create new opportunities for the development of local tourism-related businesses. Participation in this initiative could be a wonderful opportunity for Uzhgorod residents to contribute to the creation of a beautiful and blooming city.

Thus, the 'City of a Thousand Magnolias' promises to be not only an aesthetically pleasing but also a socially significant project that will unite the community around a common goal. Residents and tourists will be able to enjoy the beauty of magnolias and participate in their planting, making the city even more attractive to visitors.
