A Virtual Tour of the Podolian Way of St. James Launches in Ukraine

As Ukraine enters a new tourist season, the Vinnytsia City Council has announced the launch of a large-scale virtual tour of the Podolian Way of St. James, also known as Camino Podolico.

As Ukraine enters a new tourist season, the Vinnytsia City Council has announced the launch of a large-scale virtual tour of the Podolian Way of St. James, also known as Camino Podolico. This innovative virtual project features 200 panoramic images of Eastern Podillia in 360-degree format, allowing travelers to enjoy the beauty of the region in ultra-high definition, making it ideal for viewing through VR headsets or glasses.

The virtual tour offers the opportunity to 'walk' one of the most picturesque routes in Ukraine, stretching from Vinnytsia to Kamianets-Podilskyi, and further extending to Panivtsi, where the only functioning St. James Church in Podillia is located. The total length of the route is 252 kilometers, featuring 20 stops and 42 scenic locations. Each of the 200 panoramas is accompanied by a textual description of the sites, providing a deeper understanding of the sacred heritage of the Vinnytsia and Khmelnytskyi regions.

The development of the VR tour was carried out by one of Ukraine's leading studios specializing in virtual tours, with organizational support from the city's marketing and tourism department of the Vinnytsia City Council. The filming of locations for this virtual tour took place in the summer of 2025, and now travelers have the chance to explore iconic sites such as Castle Hill in Vinnytsia, the Stone of Love in Severynivka, the Church of St. Anne in Bar, the Maliyivets Palace, Karmaliuk Mountain, the Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress, the 'Atlantis' cave, and many others. Many of these landmarks feature multiple panoramas, allowing visitors to also see the interiors of the buildings.

Currently, the VR tour is available on a specially created project website for Camino Podolico, providing easy access to all panoramas and descriptions. The Podolian Way of St. James, or Camino Podolico, is a picturesque walking and cycling route connecting Vinnytsia and Kamianets-Podilskyi, with a total length exceeding 250 km. This route was created in analogy with the Spanish Camino de Santiago and passes through settlements such as Bar, Brailiv, and Maliyivtsi. The entire route can be completed in 14-16 days and features special markings and infrastructure, making it convenient for tourists. It is important to note that since 2023, the Podolian Way of St. James has been included in the European Federation of the Way of St. James, highlighting its significance on an international level.

Thus, the launch of the virtual tour of the Podolian Way of St. James will not only promote this route among tourists but also open new opportunities for those wishing to explore Ukraine's cultural and historical heritage without leaving their homes. This initiative can also serve as a wonderful complement to traditional tourist routes, providing a virtual travel experience for all interested.
