Ukraine Reintroduces Power Outage Schedules Due to Cold Weather
In Ukraine, despite the end of the heating season, power outage schedules are being reintroduced due to a drop in temperatures and an increase in electricity consumption caused by adverse weather conditions.
In Ukraine, despite the conclusion of the heating season, power outage schedules are being reintroduced once again. This decision has arisen due to a significant drop in temperatures and a corresponding increase in electricity consumption, which has been triggered by unfavorable weather conditions.
This announcement was made by the energy company DTEK on Thursday, April 9. According to representatives of the energy firm, the situation within Ukraine's energy system remains tense due to the aftermath of previous Russian attacks, which have left parts of the energy infrastructure still damaged. However, the primary reason for the return to power outage schedules is the change in weather.
“The cold weather increases consumption while the generation from solar power stations decreases. Due to overcast conditions, they produce significantly less electricity, causing the system to lose part of its daytime resources. Therefore, we have to reintroduce power outage schedules,” stated DTEK in their announcement.
Additionally, energy workers continue to repair infrastructure that has been affected by the massive Russian attacks. Due to extensive damage, the restoration of the energy infrastructure requires time, but work is ongoing continuously, emphasized DTEK.
According to data from Ukrenergo, today, April 9, from 07:00 to 22:00, hourly power outage schedules are being implemented across all regions of Ukraine. The system operator has also recorded a 4.9% increase in electricity consumption compared to April 8, attributed to the cold and cloudy weather. Consumers are urged to avoid using high-power electrical appliances during the evening hours to reduce the load on the energy system.
This situation underscores the importance of energy security in Ukraine, which continues to face challenges related to the ongoing war and its consequences. Amid constant threats from the aggressor, energy companies are working on the restoration and modernization of infrastructure to ensure stable electricity supply for the population.
It is worth noting that power outage schedules were first introduced in Ukraine due to the energy crisis caused by military actions and remain a crucial tool for managing energy resources amid instability.
