Pilot Project for Waste Recycling in Road Construction Launched in Ukraine

A new pilot project initiated by the Japanese corporation IKEE Group Ltd aims to utilize recycled demolition waste for producing materials used in road construction and repair, marking a significant step towards sustainable development and environmental responsibility in Ukraine.

A pilot project has been launched in Ukraine, initiated by the Japanese corporation IKEE Group Ltd, aimed at utilizing recycled demolition and construction waste to produce materials used in road construction and repair. This project represents an important step towards sustainable development and environmental responsibility in Ukraine.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, the project involves the collection of demolition waste such as concrete, bricks, and asphalt, followed by sorting and recycling. The materials obtained will be used as secondary raw materials for road repair and construction, which will help reduce the negative impact on the environment.

The pilot project was presented during a meeting between Deputy Minister Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, the leadership of IKEE Group Ltd, and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). During this meeting, crucial issues related to state policy in waste management were discussed, as well as the main outcomes of the project's implementation, barriers to investment, and possible mechanisms to support Japanese businesses in Ukraine.

Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi emphasized the importance of using demolition waste as secondary raw material, stating, "The use of demolition waste as secondary raw material is an important step towards forming a circular economy in Ukraine. Such projects allow us to combine environmental responsibility with practical solutions for infrastructure restoration."

Furthermore, IKEE Group Ltd has committed to facilitating the transfer of technology for producing all-weather materials for road surface repair using secondary aggregates derived from demolition waste. This initiative aims to improve the condition of damaged road sections, enhance logistical capabilities, and accelerate the restoration of critical infrastructure in Ukraine.

According to JICA's scheme, the company is conducting tests of the new material on Ukrainian roads, as well as pilot production of the product. The new material can be used under various weather conditions and does not require complex preparation or special equipment, ensuring a quick return to operation for the road sections. Additionally, it is characterized by high load resistance.

The Ministry of Economy noted that IKEE's solution demonstrates the possibility of combining waste recycling with modern technologies in the construction sector, aligning with European approaches to sustainable development and recovery. This underscores the importance of innovative solutions in road construction and environmental responsibility.

It is worth noting that earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated 300 million hryvnias for the restoration of frontline roads in the Kharkiv region, reflecting the government's active efforts to restore infrastructure amid the ongoing war.

Thus, the pilot project by IKEE Group Ltd in Ukraine will not only contribute to improving road conditions but also serve as an important step towards environmental awareness and sustainable development in the country.
