The Film 'Mavka: A True Myth' Premieres in Czech Republic and Slovakia

On April 9, 2023, the Ukrainian romantic fantasy film 'Mavka: A True Myth' will commence its theatrical run in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This announcement was made via an official post on the film's Facebook page, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the team behind the popular animated feature 'Mavka: The Forest Song'.

The Facebook post reads: 'On April 9, the Ukrainian romantic fantasy film Mavka: A True Myth will premiere in the Czech Republic. Screenings will be available in both Ukrainian and Czech languages, so be sure to check the details before your session.' This indicates that the organizers are committed to making the film accessible to diverse audience groups.

In the Czech Republic, screenings of the Ukrainian film are scheduled in 20 cities, including Prague, Beroun, České Budějovice, Česká Lípa, Domažlice, Děčín, Hodonín, Karviná, Králíky, Nové Město nad Metují, Nový Bor, Olomouc, Prostějov, Přerov, Rumburk, Semily, Vrchlabí, Vsetín, Vyškov, and Znojmo. This widespread distribution reflects a significant interest in Ukrainian cinema within the region.

In Slovakia, the film will be shown in 12 cities, including Bratislava, Malacky, Senec, Galanta, Sereď, Levice, Trnava, Piešťany, Banská Bystrica, Rimavská Sobota, Košice, and Prešov. Similar to the Czech Republic, screenings will be held in both Ukrainian and Slovak languages, enabling a broader audience engagement.

'Mavka: A True Myth' was released in Ukrainian theaters on March 1, 2023. According to project producer Iryna Kostiuk, 'Mavka: A True Myth' is the largest project created by FILM.UA during the Great War. 'We believe that it will inspire people in these challenging times just as our animated Mavka once did,' she added.

The film's plot revolves around the love story between the nymph Mavka and biologist Lukyan. In a dark forest inhabited by mermaids who await the boy's soul, the lovestruck Mavka must save Lukyan. This narrative emphasizes the importance of love and self-sacrifice in the face of surrounding danger.

The lead roles in the film are played by newcomers to feature films: Arina Bocharova, an actress from the L. Kurbas Theater in Lviv, portrays Mavka, while Ivan Dovzhenko, an actor from the Ivan Franko National Theater, plays Lukyan. Ivan's father, Vyacheslav Dovzhenko, known for his roles in films such as 'Cyborgs' and 'House of Word: Endless Novel', plays a professor leading a group of biology students on an expedition.
