Prices of Greenhouse Cucumbers Decrease in Ukraine While Tomatoes Become More Expensive

Recent analysis by EastFruit reveals a significant drop in the prices of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine, contrasted by a rise in tomato prices. These market fluctuations are attributed to various factors, including weather conditions and consumer demand.

According to information provided by analysts at EastFruit, Ukraine is experiencing a notable decrease in the prices of greenhouse cucumbers, while tomatoes have seen an increase in price. These changes in the agricultural market are the result of several factors, including weather conditions and consumer demand.

Reports indicate that warm and sunny weather has contributed to the rapid ripening of greenhouse cucumbers, which, in turn, has led to a significant increase in their supply on the market. This abundance has compelled producers to gradually lower the prices of this product. As of the end of last week, greenhouse complexes were selling cucumbers at prices ranging from 125 to 165 hryvnias per kilogram, which is equivalent to approximately 2.85 to 3.77 dollars per kilogram. The prices of cucumbers have decreased by about 10% compared to the previous week.

Despite the price reduction, the demand for greenhouse cucumbers remains subdued, as the prices for greenhouse products are still considered relatively high by consumers. Additional pressure on the market comes from imported products, which are typically cheaper and can cost up to 100 hryvnias per kilogram. It is important to note that, despite the decrease in prices, current cucumber prices remain on average 25% higher than during the same period last year.

In contrast, the situation in the tomato market is quite different. Although the first batches of Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes arrived in stores last week, this did not halt the rise in prices. The primary reason for this increase is the limited volumes of production caused by unfavorable weather conditions. Currently, Ukrainian greenhouse complexes are offering tomatoes at prices ranging from 150 to 170 hryvnias per kilogram, which translates to approximately 3.43 to 3.88 dollars per kilogram. Tomato prices have risen on average by 66% compared to the beginning of the last season.

It is noteworthy that a significant portion of the tomato market is occupied by imports from Turkey, where prices range from 130 to 150 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the quality and volume of the product. Market participants predict that an increase in the supply of Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes is not expected for at least another two weeks, which could impact the stabilization of prices for this product.

It is also worth mentioning that at the beginning of April 2026, the wholesale prices for white cabbage in Ukraine are on average 84% lower than during the same period last year. This information reflects the overall trends in the agricultural market, which may be beneficial for consumers and producers alike.
