Massive Blackout Reported in Occupied Parts of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson Regions
On Sunday, October 15, a significant power outage affected nearly 500,000 subscribers in the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, reportedly due to an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
On Sunday, October 15, a significant power outage occurred in the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, impacting nearly 500,000 subscribers. This incident was reported by the Russian news agency TASS, citing information from the occupying authorities.
According to a statement from the so-called 'Prime Minister' of the seized part of Donetsk Oblast, Andriy Chertkov, the situation with electricity supply in the region is critical. He noted that a large number of people were left without power, severely complicating the lives of local residents. 'Almost 500,000 subscribers have been left without electricity due to the AFU attack,' emphasized Chertkov.
Furthermore, the occupying authorities indicated that Enerhodar and parts of other 'municipalities' in Zaporizhzhia Oblast also experienced power outages. This suggests that the consequences of the AFU attack extend beyond the territory of Donetsk Oblast and into neighboring regions under Russian military control.
The head of the occupied part of Kherson Oblast, Volodymyr Saldo, also confirmed the reports of power outages. He stated that all 'districts' in the captured part of the region were left without electricity, creating serious problems for local residents who are already suffering from the impacts of the war.
This incident serves as further confirmation of how the war affects the civilian population in regions that have come under occupation. In the absence of electricity, people face difficulties in accessing basic services such as heating, water supply, and lighting. Many remain isolated, as it is impossible to ensure the normal functioning of infrastructure.
It is important to note that Ukraine continues to actively fight for the liberation of occupied territories, and such AFU attacks are part of a strategy aimed at destroying military facilities and infrastructure that supports the aggressor. At the same time, the civilian population suffers from the consequences of these actions, raising outrage and concern from the international community.
Given the current situation, it is crucial for international organizations to pay attention to the humanitarian issues faced by people in occupied regions. Ensuring electricity supply and other basic services is critical for restoring normal life in these areas and for boosting the morale of local residents who are trying to survive amidst the war.
