Case of Child Torture in Rehabilitation Center Sent to Court in Odesa Region
The Odesa region's prosecutor's office has sent a case to court regarding the torture of a child at a rehabilitation center, involving a 48-year-old caregiver accused of committing brutal acts against a six-year-old boy.
The prosecutor's office in the Odesa region has initiated legal proceedings against a 48-year-old caregiver accused of torturing a six-year-old boy at a rehabilitation center. This serious allegation has raised significant concern among the public and child protection advocates.
According to information from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the case has been forwarded to court where the caregiver faces charges of torture under Part 1 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This legal provision stipulates penalties for intentional actions aimed at inflicting severe physical pain and moral suffering for the purpose of coercion or punishment.
The incident reportedly occurred in December 2025 during a dispute between the caregiver and the child. Investigators revealed that the boy had refused to dress warmly, prompting an aggressive reaction from the caregiver. In a fit of rage, she began to physically assault the child, attempting to force him to put on his clothes.
"The adult's reaction was brutal: she pulled the boy off the couch, struck him on the head, and dragged him down the stairs by his arms. As a result, the child sustained multiple abrasions and bruises. It was established that despite the child's cries and pleas for her to stop, the accused continued her actions, causing not only physical pain but also significant moral suffering and humiliation," the prosecutor's office stated.
Following the public outcry over this incident, the caregiver was suspended from her duties. Subsequently, she chose to resign voluntarily, raising further questions in society regarding the accountability of individuals working with children in such institutions.
This case has sparked widespread public reaction, as the issue of child protection in rehabilitation centers has long been a source of concern. Society is demanding greater attention to such incidents and increased oversight of the operations of similar facilities. Human rights advocates emphasize the need for stricter measures to ensure the safety of children residing in these establishments.
It is important to note that instances of child torture in rehabilitation centers are not isolated. There is growing public concern regarding the conditions in which children are kept, as well as the disciplinary methods employed by caregivers. This incident underscores the critical need for oversight and accountability for adults responsible for the care of children.
The National Police of Ukraine is continuing its investigation into this case, as well as examining other potential instances of violence in rehabilitation centers. The public hopes for a thorough investigation and appropriate punishment for those responsible for this horrific incident.
