Three Killed, Including Child, in Nighttime Russian Attack on Odesa

In a devastating nighttime assault on October 22, 2023, Odesa was struck by a massive attack from Russian forces, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals, including a child. This information was confirmed by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) via their Telegram channel.

In the early hours of October 22, 2023, the city of Odesa experienced a severe attack from Russian military forces, which led to the loss of three lives, including that of a child. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported the incident through its official Telegram channel, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The assault targeted residential buildings, infrastructure, and administrative facilities located in the Kyiv and Primorsky districts of the city. The barrage of strikes resulted in extensive fires that required immediate intervention from emergency services. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with flames engulfing buildings and thick smoke rising into the night sky.

Preliminary reports indicate that three individuals lost their lives in the attack, and ten others sustained injuries, including another child. Firefighters, who arrived promptly at the scene, managed to rescue four individuals, among whom was also a child. This rapid response underscores the high level of professionalism exhibited by the emergency services operating under extreme conditions.

Despite multiple air raid alerts, the rescue teams successfully extinguished all fires ignited by the attack. However, emergency and rescue operations are ongoing, with concerns that additional victims may be trapped under the rubble. A canine unit has been deployed to assist in locating potential survivors beneath the debris.

In response to the crisis, the SES and the city council have established resilience points and an operational headquarters to coordinate the actions of the rescue services. Psychologists from the SES and the National Police are on-site, providing support to the victims and their families during this challenging time.

It is important to note that this incident follows a previous drone attack in Odesa, which had already resulted in five reported injuries. These events highlight the ongoing threat posed by Russian military actions to the civilian population of Ukraine, particularly in cities like Odesa, which have been repeatedly targeted.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols during air raid alerts. Additionally, they are appealing to the international community for support in combating aggression against Ukraine.
