Government Introduces Grants for Training in Defense Production Sector

In a significant move to bolster the defense sector, the Ukrainian government has announced the introduction of grants aimed at training specialists in defense production, as revealed by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during Employment Week.

As part of a new employment policy announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the Ukrainian government is rolling out grants for training aimed at specialists in the defense production sector. According to reports from Ukrinform, Svyrydenko shared this information in a Facebook post during Employment Week, emphasizing the critical importance of preparing personnel in this vital industry.

The primary goal of the new initiative is to assist enterprises within the defense industrial complex, as well as other priority sectors, in rapidly preparing qualified specialists according to their needs. Svyrydenko noted that Ukraine already has a support mechanism for training through vouchers and retraining, but the government is now enhancing this support by targeting it to specific employer requests.

“The government is now strengthening the link between state support and specific employer requests and is providing two forms of support: a grant for individuals and compensation for employers who invest in workforce training,” stated the Prime Minister. This means that individuals seeking to acquire new professions will be able to receive financial support, while companies investing in the training of their employees will also have the opportunity to receive compensation.

Svyrydenko also pointed out that by 2026, state support will amount to up to 30,000 hryvnias for obtaining full professional qualifications and up to 15,000 hryvnias for partial qualifications. These same maximum amounts will apply to compensating employers' training expenses, which will undoubtedly encourage them to invest in workforce development.

The program will be funded through the resources of the Unemployment Social Insurance Fund, ensuring its stability and effectiveness. “The dynamic field of defense production and other priority sectors, such as energy, require qualified specialists who enhance our ability to scale up domestic production,” emphasized Svyrydenko, highlighting the importance of engineering personnel for the country.

The Prime Minister also noted that Ukrainians are already offering unique defense solutions to the world, and the country needs to become a nation of engineers to scale these achievements. This reflects the government's ambitious plans for developing the defense industry and creating new jobs in this sector.

“These changes are part of the government’s new employment policy,” she added, stressing that the goal is to shape the labor market in accordance with modern demands and the needs of the economy. This demonstrates the government's commitment to adapt to the challenges of the times and ensure effective workforce preparation in response to market demands.

Furthermore, as reported by Ukrinform, the state will take demographic dynamics into account when forming state orders for training specialists, which will further optimize the process of workforce preparation in line with economic needs.
