Ukrainian Government Simplifies Aviation Modernization to Combat Shahed Drones

The Ukrainian government has taken a crucial step to enhance its defense capabilities in the face of modern warfare by simplifying the process of aviation modernization. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko shared this important update via her Telegram channel, highlighting that the newly implemented rules will facilitate faster modifications of aircraft and helicopters to address the evolving needs on the battlefield.

"We are strengthening the protection of Ukrainian airspace. The government has made a decision that allows for quicker upgrades of aircraft and helicopters to meet the demands of modern warfare. Now, weaponry, communication systems, navigation tools, and target detection equipment can be installed without lengthy approvals," Svyrydenko stated, underscoring the necessity for rapid adaptation to emerging threats.

According to the Prime Minister, the entire modernization process will be condensed to just one month. This rapid turnaround means that Ukrainian military forces will be able to respond promptly to new challenges arising from active combat situations. The modernization efforts will not only involve companies specializing in aviation equipment production but also experts and military units that operate the aircraft.

"We must quickly change and adapt our procedures to the challenges of war," Svyrydenko emphasized, pointing out the importance of flexibility and speed in the context of contemporary conflict.

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov also participated in the discussion regarding these new initiatives, noting that the pool of contractors for the work is expanding. Now, the upgrading of aviation capabilities can be carried out not only by equipment manufacturers but also directly by military units with operational experience in handling the technology.

"Faster modernization of aviation means quicker adaptation to new threats and greater capabilities for our military in combating aerial attacks," Fedorov stressed, highlighting the significance of these changes for the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine's air defense has demonstrated impressive results, having shot down 5,935 drones out of 6,600 that the Russian army used to attack Ukraine in March 2026. This statistic underscores the ongoing need for continuous improvement and adaptation of military technologies to ensure the country's security.

Thus, the new decisions made by the Ukrainian government represent a vital step towards strengthening the country's defense capabilities amid the ongoing military conflict. The involvement of a broad range of specialists and the speed of aviation modernization will enable Ukrainian forces to more effectively counter contemporary threats.
