Ukrainian Government Expands 'LightHome' Program to Kharkiv Region

The Ukrainian government has made a significant decision to expand the 'LightHome' program to the Kharkiv region, aiming to bolster regional resilience during energy crises.

The Ukrainian government has approved the expansion of the 'LightHome' program to the Kharkiv region, marking a crucial step in ensuring the resilience of areas facing energy crises. This announcement was made by Ukraine's Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, on her Telegram channel, highlighting that multi-apartment buildings in Kharkiv will be able to receive financial assistance for purchasing essential equipment to support engineering systems in the event of blackouts.

"Multi-apartment buildings in Kharkiv will be eligible for compensation for equipment to maintain engineering systems during blackouts — we are expanding the 'LightHome' program to the Kharkiv region as part of our regional resilience plans," Svyrydenko stated. This decision responds to the needs of local residents who are struggling with electricity supply challenges.

Under the program's conditions, the government provides financial assistance ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 hryvnias for acquiring energy equipment that is critical for the functioning of multi-apartment buildings. This equipment includes generators, batteries, inverters, solar panels, and other means that ensure the operation of pumps, elevators, lighting in common areas, and other essential systems. The amount of assistance depends on the number of floors in the building and the number of entrances.

Homeowners' associations, residential, and service cooperatives wishing to apply for assistance can do so through the 'LightHome' program website using the electronic cabinet on the Diia portal. Applicants must open a special account for targeted use at Oschadbank or another participating bank. Applications are reviewed and approved by a commission at the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

Yulia Svyrydenko also reminded that the 'LightHome' program launched on January 28, 2023, has already covered Kyiv and the Kyiv region. During this period, over 1,200 multi-apartment buildings have received funding totaling nearly 306 million hryvnias, indicating a high demand for this initiative among the population.

The government program 'LightHome' aims to support co-owners of multi-apartment buildings in acquiring autonomous sources of electricity, which is particularly relevant given the current energy challenges. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine continues to explore the possibility of expanding the program's coverage area, reflecting the authorities' commitment to ensuring comfort and safety for citizens across all regions of the country.
