Ukrenergo Adjusts Electricity Outage Forecast for Wednesday

The National Energy Company of Ukraine, Ukrenergo, has announced changes to its electricity outage forecasts for Wednesday, April 8, due to a significant increase in energy consumption across the country.

As of 9:30 AM, electricity consumption in Ukraine was reported to be 16% higher than at the same time the previous day, Tuesday, according to Ukrinform. This surge in demand is primarily attributed to a drop in temperatures observed across all regions of the country, coupled with overcast weather conditions that have adversely affected the efficiency of residential solar power stations.

In light of these factors, Ukrenergo has indicated the necessity of implementing measures to limit electricity consumption. The energy system operator specifically noted that power limitation schedules will be in effect for industrial consumers in all regions of Ukraine from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Additionally, hourly outages will be introduced for all categories of consumers from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. "Due to the complicated situation in the energy system caused by previous shelling, we are compelled to take such measures," emphasized Ukrenergo.

The operator has also urged the public to minimize the use of electrical appliances during the evening hours, specifically from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, in order to reduce the load on the energy system. These measures are deemed essential for ensuring the stability of electricity supply amidst heightened consumption levels.

Furthermore, in connection with recent attacks from Russia, as of Wednesday morning, power outages have been reported in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. Energy workers have already begun restoration efforts in those areas where safety conditions permit.

It is also important to note that due to strong winds causing trees to fall on power lines, more than 90 settlements in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Kyiv regions were fully or partially without electricity as of Wednesday morning. This situation further complicates the electricity supply challenges faced by the country.

Previously, only power limitation schedules for industry were anticipated for April 8, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. However, given the new circumstances, Ukrenergo was compelled to revise these forecasts.
