1.2 Million Books Delivered to Ukrainian Children Abroad - Nalyvaiko

In a significant charitable initiative launched in response to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 1.2 million children's books have been delivered to Ukrainian children living abroad. This announcement was made by Oleg Nalyvaiko, the head of Ukraine's State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, during a meeting with chief editors of print media in Odesa.

As part of a charitable program initiated at the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 1.2 million children's books have been delivered to Ukrainian children who are currently residing abroad. Oleg Nalyvaiko, the head of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, shared this information during a meeting with leading editors of print media in Odesa, as reported by a correspondent from Ukrinform.

Nalyvaiko explained that the idea of distributing books emerged in the early months of the war when many people in Ukraine, including refugees with children, found themselves in printing houses. He recounted how the director of one of the printing houses in Lviv reached out with a request to deliver children's books for displaced families. This request sparked the implementation of the program, which also involved military personnel who transported literature from Kharkiv, saving it from Russian bombardments.

Following this initiative, according to Nalyvaiko, Ukrainian books began to be sent abroad to countries where Ukrainian children had been forced to flee due to the war. "Thus, throughout this time, we have delivered 1.2 million children's Ukrainian books across European countries and to the USA. We are currently continuing this effort in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he emphasized.

The head of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting also noted that libraries in some Ukrainian cities have sought assistance in removing Russian literature from their collections. In response to these requests, the committee is actively helping to replenish library stocks with high-quality contemporary Ukrainian literature. "As part of the program 'Ukrainian Books for Ukrainian Children,' we are engaged in transferring books from Western partners for higher educational institutions," Nalyvaiko added.

He also pointed out that the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting is always ready to assist with specialized literature, including works in French, English, and German. Additionally, Ukrainian books are being sent to hospitals for military personnel, highlighting the importance of supporting not only children but also defenders of Ukraine.

The charitable campaign "Ukrainian Books for Ukrainian Children" was launched on March 15, 2022, by the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting in collaboration with the Office of the President and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. This initiative aims to support Ukrainian children who find themselves in difficult circumstances due to the war and to preserve Ukrainian culture abroad.

It is worth noting that during the same meeting, Oleg Nalyvaiko also presented four sets of personal protective equipment to Odesa journalists for use in hazardous conditions, demonstrating ongoing support for media professionals in Ukraine amid the war.
