Ukraine Strikes Major Russian Oil Refinery, Baltic Port, and Air Base in Crimea

In a significant escalation of its military operations, Ukraine has successfully targeted key Russian infrastructure, including one of the country's largest oil refineries, a Baltic port, and an air base in Crimea.

On the night of Sunday, April 5, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed a series of successful strikes against strategic Russian infrastructure, including a massive assault on one of the largest oil refineries in the country.

The 'Lukoil-Nizhnegorodneftekhorgsintez' refinery located in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, was hit, resulting in a large fire breaking out on the premises. This refinery is a critical asset for the Russian military-industrial complex, supplying nearly 30% of the gasoline consumption for the Moscow region and directly providing fuel to occupying forces in Ukraine.

With an annual capacity of 17 million tons, the refinery produces over 50 types of products, including aviation and diesel fuel.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces targeted the Primorsk port on the Baltic Sea, another vital hub for Russian oil exports. Although the Governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, initially denied damage to the pipeline, he later confirmed a fuel leak caused by a shell striking a storage tank. Ukrainian drone commander Robert Brovdi confirmed the strike, stating that "drone systems once again visited" the facility owned by Transneft.

In occupied Crimea, Ukrainian units struck an aviation equipment storage facility in Saky. These operations were supported by strikes against concentrations of Russian troops in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions, particularly near the settlements of Berezove, Novomykolaivka, Huliaipole, and Yalynske.

These actions are part of Ukraine's strategy aimed at systematically dismantling Moscow's ability to finance its military operations. The significance of facilities like Primorsk, capable of processing one million barrels of oil per day, underscores the seriousness of the situation and Kyiv's intentions to destroy the Russian economic base that supports aggression against Ukraine.

These strikes serve as further confirmation of Ukraine's determination in its fight against Russian aggression and its commitment to restoring the country's territorial integrity. In the context of the ongoing war, it is crucial for the international community to continue supporting Ukraine in its efforts to counter aggression and restore peace in the region.
