Ukraine Proposes Energy Truce to Russia - Zelensky
In a significant announcement during his evening video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Ukraine has proposed an energy truce to Russia amidst the ongoing conflict between the two nations and the global energy crisis exacerbated by unresolved issues related to Iran.
In his evening video address, which was broadcast via social media, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced a proposal for an energy truce put forward to Russia. This statement marks an important step in the context of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, as well as in light of the global energy crisis that has intensified due to unresolved issues related to Iran.
Zelensky noted that the oil market, like global markets in general, is experiencing a crisis period. He emphasized that oil-producing countries, particularly Russia, have the opportunity to earn more amid instability. The President expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian military for their precision in carrying out tasks that limit Russia's capabilities in this area, particularly through the use of drones and missiles.
In his speech, Zelensky also highlighted the importance of the international support that Ukraine receives from its partners. He thanked those countries that continue to exert pressure on Russia through sanctions, halting tankers, and restrictions on the supply of modern equipment. In the President's view, these are crucial steps in the fight against Russian aggression.
Zelensky underscored that all revenues Russia generates from high oil prices are being utilized to wage war against Ukraine. He pointed out that Russia's priorities have not changed, and therefore, every restriction imposed on their ability to export oil is the right step. The President of Ukraine stated that if Russia is willing to cease its strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, then Ukraine is prepared to respond in kind, meaning it would also halt its actions.
Volodymyr Zelensky informed that the relevant proposal regarding the energy truce has been conveyed to the Russian side through intermediaries, including Americans. This information indicates that Ukraine is open to dialogue, but only on the condition that Russia shows readiness for peaceful negotiations.
It is worth recalling that earlier Ukraine had already proposed an Easter truce to Russia; however, the Kremlin ignored this proposal and continued its massive shelling of Ukrainian cities. This indicates that the situation remains tense, and unfortunately, peace initiatives do not always resonate with the Russian side.
Amid rising tensions and escalating conflict, it is crucial for the international community to continue supporting Ukraine in its pursuit of peace and stability. The Ukrainian people continue to suffer from the consequences of war, and each day brings new challenges for the state and its citizens.
