Ukraine and Syria to Restore Embassy Operations in Kyiv and Damascus Soon, Says Sybiha
In a significant diplomatic development, Ukraine and Syria have agreed to restore the operations of their embassies in Kyiv and Damascus. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced this decision during a recent meeting in Damascus.
During a recent meeting between representatives of Ukraine and Syria in Damascus, an important agreement was reached that involves the restoration of embassy operations for both countries in Kyiv and Damascus. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha shared this news on the social media platform X, emphasizing the significance of this step in strengthening the partnership between the two nations.
Sybiha stated, "We have agreed to restore the operations of embassies in Kyiv and Damascus in the near future – this is an important step in strengthening our partnership." This statement reflects the intentions of both countries to activate diplomatic relations that have been interrupted for some time.
Furthermore, the foreign minister noted that the volume of bilateral trade between Ukraine and Syria has increased ninefold since the signing of the Joint Communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations. Sybiha highlighted, "We see clear opportunities for further expansion," indicating a positive dynamic in the relations between the countries.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed crucial security issues, the development of trade and maritime routes. Minister Sybiha remarked that Ukraine is ready to participate in initiatives that will enhance food security in the region, particularly through the project "Grain from Ukraine."
This initiative is part of Ukraine's efforts to support countries facing food security challenges and demonstrates Ukraine's readiness for active cooperation with other states in this area.
It is noteworthy that this meeting was preceded by significant events on the international stage. On Sunday, during a meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed great interest in exchanging military and security experiences between the countries. This reflects Ukraine's desire to enhance cooperation with Syria across various sectors, including security.
Zelensky also mentioned that negotiations took place in Syria involving Ukrainian and Syrian teams, as well as a trilateral meeting of representatives from Ukraine, Syria, and Turkey. These meetings indicate a growing interest in developing relations between these countries and underscore the importance of cooperation in the face of contemporary challenges.
Thus, the restoration of embassy operations between Ukraine and Syria marks a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations, which could positively influence the development of economic and security cooperation between the countries in the future.
