Ukraine Seeks THAAD Anti-Ballistic Systems to Protect Against Russian Aviation - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope for the acquisition of THAAD anti-ballistic systems, which could significantly enhance the security of Ukraine's airspace. This information was conveyed by a correspondent from Ukrinform.

During a recent interaction with journalists, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky articulated his optimism regarding the potential procurement of THAAD anti-ballistic systems, which he believes could greatly bolster the safety of Ukraine's airspace. The comments were reported by a correspondent from Ukrinform.

Zelensky pointed out that discussions concerning the supply of these systems have taken place with the American side. He emphasized that Ukraine already possesses experience in collaborating with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf regarding consultations and expertise, and expressed a desire to acquire the anti-ballistic systems that are available in those countries but are currently absent in Ukraine.

“Specifically, we are talking about THAAD systems and others. Such systems are also lacking in Europe. It is crucial that they be present in Ukraine. For instance, the threat of Russian aviation bombs would simply not exist in Ukraine. At least for 200 kilometers, we would certainly eliminate that threat. Russian planes simply would not approach – and that would be it,” Zelensky underscored.

The head of state also noted that the Ukrainian side is eager to receive a response regarding this matter. He mentioned that Kyiv is prepared to present its vision concerning the potential supply of these systems.

“The American side will then analyze all of this. Perhaps they will shorten something, or maybe not – and they will respond to us. We agreed to do this in the near future,” he added, highlighting the importance of this issue for Ukraine's national security.

As reported by Ukrinform, Zelensky also indicated that in the coming days, the Ukrainian side plans to supplement the security guarantees document with its responses to remaining questions in this area. Following the alignment of the documents, a delegation from the United States may arrive in Kyiv for further negotiations.

These statements from the president reflect an intensification of Ukraine's diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening its defense capabilities, particularly in light of ongoing threats from Russia. It is significant that the issue of supplying modern defense systems, such as THAAD, is becoming increasingly relevant as Ukraine continues to face challenges related to Russian aggression.
