Ukraine Begins Forming List of Enterprises for Pea Exports to China
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection has announced the initiation of a list of domestic enterprises eligible to export peas to China, aiming to comply with phytosanitary requirements set forth in the export protocol.
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, commonly known as the State Consumer Service, has officially announced the commencement of the formation of a list of domestic enterprises that will be authorized to export peas to China. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with the requirements established in the phytosanitary protocol for the export of Ukrainian peas to the People's Republic of China (PRC).
According to an official statement from the State Consumer Service, several important lists are being created as part of this effort. Firstly, a list of enterprises that cultivate peas for subsequent export to China is being formed. Secondly, a list of enterprises planning to engage in pea exports to the PRC will also be compiled. Finally, the third list will include enterprises involved in the processing or storage of peas intended for export to China.
It is noteworthy that two Ukrainian enterprises engaged in the storage and processing of peas have already received official permission to export this product to China. This development indicates positive shifts in the growth of the Ukrainian agricultural sector and the opening of new opportunities for domestic producers.
Furthermore, three business entities have been included in the list of enterprises planning to export peas to the PRC, while four entities have been added to the list of enterprises cultivating peas for export to China. These steps underscore the proactive approach of Ukrainian farmers in seeking new markets for their products.
According to data provided by the Russian news agency Interfax, in the first two months of 2026, China imported 184,000 tons of peas, with Russia accounting for 75% of these supplies. Overall, since the beginning of the 2025-2026 marketing year, which runs from July 2025 to June 2026, Russia has increased its pea exports to China by 2.5 times, reaching a volume of 1.1 million tons. These figures reflect significant demand for peas in China and the competition in this market.
It is important to recall that China recently opened its market for the import of Ukrainian peas, marking a significant step for Ukrainian farmers. The Ukrainian Pulse and Soybean Association notes that Ukrainian peas surpass Russian products in quality and fully meet the standards of Canadian peas, which are considered the benchmark worldwide. This opens new prospects for Ukrainian producers in the international market.
Antonina Sklyarenko, the head of the association, emphasized that Ukrainian producers have all the prerequisites to become a long-term supplier of peas to the Chinese market. She noted that the quality of Ukrainian peas could become a key factor in the competitive struggle for Chinese consumers.
Since the beginning of 2026, as of March, 14 new export markets have been opened for domestic food products, and a total of 89 new markets have been established since 2022. This indicates a growing interest in Ukrainian agricultural products on the international stage and the active efforts of the government in promoting export development.
