Ukraine Ready to Respond in Kind if Russia Halts Strikes, Says Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on his Telegram channel that Ukraine is prepared to respond in kind to Russia's actions if the Russian side decides to cease its military strikes. He emphasized that such a ceasefire could pave the way for favorable conditions for peace negotiations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a significant statement on his Telegram channel on Wednesday, asserting that Ukraine is ready to mirror Russia's actions if the latter chooses to stop its military assaults. According to Zelensky, such a cessation of hostilities could represent a crucial step towards creating conducive conditions for peace agreements.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has consistently called for a ceasefire in the ongoing war waged by Russia against the Ukrainian state and its citizens. He also expressed support for a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East and the Gulf region, noting that this opens up opportunities for diplomatic efforts. "It is evident to everyone that a ceasefire can create the right preconditions for agreements," the president wrote.

The president also mentioned the involvement of various countries in the negotiation process in the Middle East, highlighting the importance of the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the United States. "During these weeks, Ukraine is assisting in protecting lives in the Middle East and the Gulf. Ukrainian expert military teams will continue to work in the region to further develop security capabilities," he added.

Zelensky pointed out that any threats to security and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf could complicate the economic situation and impact the cost of living in each country. "That is why security must be guaranteed, and the interests of every nation must be considered when determining post-war conditions," he stressed.

The head of state also underscored the importance of protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that determination on this issue holds global significance. "Post-war security must increase, not decrease. Ukraine will continue to work constructively with all partners," Zelensky concluded.

It is worth noting that earlier, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he agreed to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks, contingent upon the full, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz by the Islamic Republic of Iran. This statement sparked widespread resonance in international circles, as security issues in the region remain extremely relevant.
