Attack on Kharkiv: National Aerospace University HAI Suffers Damage
On April 6, 2023, the city of Kharkiv experienced yet another hostile attack, resulting in damage to the National Aerospace University HAI. The assault has dealt a heavy blow to the entire university community.
On April 6, 2023, the city of Kharkiv became the site of yet another enemy attack, which resulted in significant damage to the National Aerospace University HAI. The main building of the educational institution suffered extensive damage, marking a severe setback for the entire university community.
The university's rector, Oleksandr Lytvynov, reported the incident by posting photographs of the aftermath of the attack on his Facebook page. The images reveal shattered and blown-out windows in the building, as well as damaged benches. Additionally, the shelling destroyed the fir trees that had adorned the university's grounds. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the attack, which was a crucial point for the entire HAI community.
Oleksandr Lytvynov stated, "On April 6, HAI took another hit. It is far from the first during these years of full-scale war, but it is particularly painful. The main building is the heart of HAI. Those incredible fir trees that welcomed generations of students and seemed to shield the university with their tranquility are now only preserved in photographs. We exhale and remain silent. Because the most important thing is that there were no casualties or injuries."
These words from the rector reflect the deep emotions and concerns felt by everyone connected to the university. He added, "What we have built over all these years has come into play: organization, mutual support, self-control. And the protected space of HAI, which once again became a shield for students and faculty. Frontline Kharkiv has taught us to withstand blows. Not to show pain. To move forward. And today, you will not see tears on the faces of HAI members. But that does not mean it does not hurt. It hurts with every fragment, with every scar on the body of our beloved HAI."
Despite all the challenges, the university continues its operations and is recovering from the latest attack on the city. This resilience showcases the unwavering spirit of the students and faculty who, despite the circumstances, are eager to continue their education and academic activities.
It is worth noting that on the same day, April 7, a Russian drone struck a historical architectural monument from the early 19th century—the estate of the Donskikh-Zakharzhevskykh in Velykyi Burluk. This wooden palace was completely burned down to its brick foundation, further underscoring the scale of destruction caused by the war.
These events raise deep concerns among the population, as they indicate the ongoing aggression and dangers that threaten not only infrastructure but also the lives of people. It is crucial for society to unite during these difficult times, supporting one another and working towards recovery.
