In Kharkiv, following a recent attack by Russian drones, the Ukrainian Red Cross (URC) swiftly established support points for individuals affected by this horrific incident. According to information published on the official URC Facebook page, a rapid response team was active at all locations where strikes occurred, providing essential assistance to the victims.
On April 6, an attack in Kharkiv resulted in serious consequences. The URC reported that support points were organized at the sites of the strikes, where victims could not only rest but also charge their mobile phones, receive drinking water, as well as hot beverages and light snacks. This initiative marked a significant step in providing urgent aid to those who experienced stress and trauma from the attack.
The Ukrainian Red Cross team, taking into account the gathered needs, actively distributed humanitarian aid. Among the provided materials were OSB boards, which were used to temporarily seal damage, as well as water, transit food, and hygiene kits, including those for children. These essential items became lifesaving for many victims who lost everything as a result of the attack.
Additionally, URC volunteers conducted rounds in the surrounding areas affected by the strikes, as well as in damaged buildings. They carried out door-to-door visits to identify victims and provide them with first aid. Volunteers also offered psychological support to those in need, as experiencing such situations can have serious consequences for mental health.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), on April 6, Kharkiv was subjected to an attack by Russian drones, resulting in injuries to at least five individuals. The attack led to the destruction of a residential high-rise building in the Kyiv district, as well as damage to cars and a bus located near a public transport stop. As a result of the shelling, fires broke out in open areas, which rescuers promptly extinguished, preventing further spread of the flames.
This incident once again highlighted the importance of humanitarian organizations' work in crisis situations. The URC continues its mission, providing necessary support and assistance to those in need amid war and humanitarian disasters. It is crucial for everyone affected to know that they are not alone in their struggles and that help is always available.
