Doctors in Sumy Save Infant Weighing Just 860 Grams

In a remarkable feat of medical skill, doctors at the Sumy Perinatal Center have successfully saved a premature infant named Nicole, who was born at just 32 weeks gestation and weighed only 860 grams.

In Sumy, at the Sumy Perinatal Center, medical professionals performed a true miracle by saving little Nicole, who arrived into the world prematurely at just 32 weeks of pregnancy, weighing a mere 860 grams. This heartwarming news was shared through a message published on the Telegram channel of the Sumy City Council, which was relayed by the Ukrinform agency.

According to the city council, tiny Nicole spent 39 days under the vigilant care of medical specialists. Upon her birth, she was immediately placed in the intensive care unit, where doctors fought fiercely for her life. Due to her underdeveloped lungs, the newborn required artificial ventilation and specialized treatment, which is common in such cases, as children born prematurely often face serious medical challenges.

After an extended period of treatment and rehabilitation, little Nicole was transferred to her mother, marking a significant milestone in their joint recovery. On the 54th day of her hospital stay, when the girl's weight reached 2060 grams, the medical team made the decision to discharge both mother and daughter, turning this moment into a genuine celebration for the family and the medical staff.

This case is not unique. Earlier, as reported by the Ukrinform agency, doctors at the Lviv Prenatal Center successfully treated another tiny patient who was affectionately dubbed 'Thumbelina.' She was born measuring the same length as a ballpoint pen and weighed only 640 grams. These cases highlight the high level of medical care that newborns receive in Ukraine, especially those who are born prematurely.

The Sumy City Council encourages everyone to join their social media channels, such as Telegram, Instagram, and YouTube, to stay informed about the latest news and events happening in the city. It is important to note that stories like Nicole's inspire many and showcase the strength of medical professionals who save the lives of the smallest patients every day.
