Serial Killer in the U.S. Confesses to Eight Murders
A 62-year-old man has confessed to eight murders spanning nearly two decades, shocking his family and the community.
According to the news agency Ukrinform, ABC News has reported on this alarming event. The man, identified as Hayerman, was apprehended in 2023 and initially denied his guilt. However, he unexpectedly decided to confess to the crimes he committed.
As detailed by ABC News, for 17 years, from 1993 to 2011, Hayerman targeted sex industry workers, taking their lives near Gilgo Beach on Long Island. These heinous crimes remained unsolved for two decades until law enforcement identified him as a suspect in 2022. This breakthrough was made possible due to Hayerman's distinctive vehicle, which caught the attention of investigators.
Following his identification, detectives conducted DNA comparisons between samples collected from burlap sacks in which some victims were wrapped and pizza remnants found in a dumpster near Hayerman's office in Manhattan. This evidence became pivotal in the case, confirming his involvement in the murders.
In a significant turn of events, the 62-year-old Hayerman agreed to serve three consecutive life sentences, along with an additional 25 consecutive 25-year terms behind bars. This decision came as a result of his confession and cooperation with law enforcement. Hayerman's attorney noted that his client chose to confess to the crimes, indicating a desire to take responsibility for his actions.
During the court proceedings, Hayerman's daughter and wife were present. Both claimed they had no suspicion of the crimes committed by their relative. This revelation sparked outrage and shock within their community, as no one could fathom that their loved one could be involved in such horrific acts.
It is worth noting that the assassin of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also received a life sentence, underscoring the severity of crimes committed worldwide. These cases highlight the crucial role of law enforcement agencies in investigating serious crimes and ensuring justice for victims.
