Family of Volunteers Organizes 'Borscht for Ukraine' Fundraiser in the U.S., Raising $28,000

In Sheffield, Massachusetts, a family of volunteers has successfully organized a charity event called 'Borscht for Ukraine,' raising an impressive $28,000 to support those affected by the war in Ukraine.

In Sheffield, Massachusetts, a family of volunteers, including siblings Alicia and Jorge Sandyukh, along with Maura O'Malley Sandyukh, organized a charitable event titled 'Borscht for Ukraine.' This event, held at Dewey Hall, marked the fifth charity initiative the family has conducted, preparing traditional Ukrainian dishes. However, it was the first event they organized entirely on their own since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Thanks to the efforts of the community and the generosity of participants, over $28,000 was raised. These funds will be directed towards the winter assistance campaign of the Razom for Ukraine foundation, which provides essential survival items and emergency aid to the most affected regions of the country.

'We in Sheffield and the entire Berkshire community can contribute to alleviating the consequences of the war for civilians who are at the greatest risk, helping to provide vital support on the ground,' Jorge Sandyukh stated in a comment to the local publication The Berkshire Edge. His words underscore the importance of local initiatives in combating the effects of the war.

The Razom for Ukraine foundation also emphasized that such local events are transforming into a powerful wave of solidarity. A communal meal in a small American town has become part of a global chain of resilience, helping Ukrainian communities withstand the ongoing war. These events not only raise funds but also unite people around a common goal – supporting those affected by the conflict.

It is worth noting that earlier, a literary and musical evening titled 'The Word Does Not Remain Silent: Dialogues Across Generations' took place at the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago, USA. This event brought together young talents from the diaspora around the works of prominent Ukrainian writers and served as a platform for fundraising to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Such events demonstrate how the Ukrainian diaspora in the U.S. actively supports their homeland, even from afar.
