Over 1.4 Tons of Cocaine Seized at Rotterdam Port

In a significant development in the fight against international drug trafficking, authorities at Rotterdam Port, one of Europe's largest ports, have uncovered over 1,400 kilograms of cocaine hidden within shipping containers.

In a major breakthrough in the battle against international drug trafficking, authorities at Rotterdam Port, one of Europe's largest ports, have seized more than 1,400 kilograms of cocaine. According to a report by Ukrinform, citing the Dutch news agency NOS, the drugs were concealed in containers that arrived from the Caribbean island of Curaçao, among which were items intended for relocation.

The prosecution's data indicates that the majority of the seized narcotics were hidden behind legitimate cargo that had come from Curaçao. During an inspection of three containers, customs officials noticed suspicious discrepancies that drew their attention. In the first container, they discovered 32 kilograms of cocaine concealed in bags. The second container yielded an additional 177 kilograms of drugs, which were hidden within six suitcases.

The largest haul of cocaine was found in the third container. Law enforcement officials uncovered 35 bags containing a staggering 1,199 packages of cocaine, highlighting the scale of the smuggling operation and the organized activity of criminal groups. The confiscated drugs have already been destroyed, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this crime.

Preliminary data suggests that the recipients of the containers had no involvement in the illegal transportation of the drugs, indicating that the criminal scheme was well-planned and executed without their knowledge. This underscores the critical role of customs officials and law enforcement agencies in detecting and preventing drug smuggling activities.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of other drug discoveries in the Netherlands. Recently, as reported by Ukrinform, hundreds of kilograms of cocaine were found in a van, further indicating the active presence of drug traffickers in the region. Dutch authorities continue to combat this serious issue, which has international implications.
