Plans for 10 Facilities: Underground Kindergartens Under Construction in Zaporizhzhia
Construction is underway for the first underground kindergartens in Zaporizhzhia, aimed at enhancing safety for children amid current challenges. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, provided updates during a site visit.
In Zaporizhzhia, the construction of the first underground kindergartens is progressing, which are set to become a crucial element of the safety system for children in light of contemporary challenges. This was reported by Ivan Fedorov, the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, during a visit to one of the construction sites, as conveyed by a correspondent from Ukrinform.
Fedorov noted that the local authorities have ambitious plans to implement a project that includes the construction of ten underground kindergartens. Currently, the construction of three facilities has commenced: two are located in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and one in the Zavodskyi district. All three kindergartens are actively being built, and the official expressed hope that they would be operational by September. However, according to Fedorov, funding from the Ministry of Education is expected, which is critically important for the project's completion.
Each of the new kindergartens is designed to accommodate 100 children, with the cost of one such facility estimated at around 130 million hryvnias. Fedorov emphasized that construction prices may fluctuate due to rising fuel costs, which will undoubtedly affect the overall expenses of the project.
The construction is being carried out without breaks, indicating a serious approach to the project's implementation. At one of the sites in the Shevchenkivskyi district, 19 builders and 3 welders are currently at work. It is important to note that the kindergarten is being built at a depth of 6.5 meters, providing an additional level of safety for the children.
Larisa Yatsenko, the director of the combined-type preschool institution “Hraylyk,” shared the current situation at the facility. According to her, there is currently a basic shelter in the institution where children can stay for up to three hours, without the possibility of meals or sleeping arrangements. The kindergarten has a total of 140 children enrolled, of which 66 attend according to a scheduled timetable.
“Parents are eagerly awaiting the opening of the underground kindergarten-shelter. Ensuring the safety of children in today’s conditions is a priority task. The construction of such a shelter will allow children to remain in safe conditions throughout the day,” emphasized Director Yatsenko, highlighting the importance of this project for the community.
According to previous reports, approximately 15 underground schools have already been built and are operational in Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding areas, demonstrating the local authorities' active efforts to ensure the safety of children amid military threats. The construction of underground kindergartens will be a logical continuation of this work, as providing a comfortable and safe environment for children is a paramount task for society.
The completion of the underground kindergartens is scheduled for September of this year, generating significant interest among parents and local residents who hope for positive changes in the preschool education system.
