Germany is actively discussing the possibility of establishing a new military port, as reported by the Ukrinform agency, citing the German publication Der Spiegel. Currently, the German Navy has only one port on the North Sea coast, located in Wilhelmshaven. However, due to new requirements and changes in the security situation in Europe, there has arisen a necessity for an additional facility.

The Federal Ministry of Defense of Germany has confirmed that a review of potential new maritime locations and various ports is currently underway to assess their capacity to meet the growing military needs. Representatives of the ministry noted that this is related to new requirements for deployment and infrastructure that have emerged in connection with the strengthening of the country’s armed forces.

While the timeline for the construction of the new port remains uncertain, two candidates have already been identified for this project. Among the possible options are the ports of Emden and Bremerhaven. Both of these ports are already used for the transshipment of military cargo, particularly during exercises, indicating their readiness to undertake new tasks.

The creation of a new military port aims to enhance the infrastructural capabilities of the German Navy, especially in light of the changing security environment in Europe. This decision is part of a broader strategy by Germany to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and its commitments within NATO.

It is worth noting that during the Munich Security Conference, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany aims to transform the Bundeswehr into the strongest conventional army in Europe as quickly as possible, capable of withstanding any challenges. This reflects Germany's serious approach to security and defense in the face of modern threats.

Importantly, given the current geopolitical situation in Europe, many countries are striving to strengthen their armed forces and modernize military infrastructure. Germany is no exception, and the plans for a new military port are part of this global trend.
