Center for Ukrainian Language Proficiency Testing Opens in Mykolaiv
A significant milestone for the development of the state language was marked by the opening of a new testing center for Ukrainian language proficiency in Mykolaiv, as reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.
The city of Mykolaiv recently witnessed a pivotal event aimed at enhancing the use of the Ukrainian language with the inauguration of a Center for Ukrainian Language Proficiency Testing. This initiative was announced through a statement published on the official website of the Mykolaiv City Council, which was relayed by the Ukrinform news agency.
Located at the Chornomorskyi National University named after Petro Mohyla, the center is designed to assess the Ukrainian language skills of professionals who require such certification, including civil servants, local government officials, and employees of various state structures. Furthermore, any interested individuals will have the opportunity to validate their language proficiency by undergoing the relevant testing.
Upon successfully completing the examinations, participants will receive certificates that confirm their level of proficiency in the Ukrainian language. This certification will be a crucial step for those seeking to affirm their knowledge and qualifications within state institutions.
Leonid Klymenko, the rector of Chornomorskyi National University named after Petro Mohyla, emphasized that the study of Ukrainian history and the development of the state language are top priorities for the university. He noted that the establishment of the Ukrainian language testing center is a logical continuation of the traditions upheld by the Mykolaiv institution.
Klymenko also revealed that the university plans not only to conduct exams but also to organize preparatory courses for prospective test-takers. This initiative will enable interested individuals to better prepare for the testing and enhance their chances of success.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych expressed his views on the necessity of foreign language proficiency among community leaders, labeling those who do not speak English as lazy. This statement sparked a public discussion and underscored the importance of language education in Ukraine.
The opening of the Ukrainian language proficiency testing center in Mykolaiv represents a significant step towards improving language competence among civil servants and the general population. This development reflects the growing attention to the promotion of the Ukrainian language and its importance in contemporary society.
