Ukrainian Defense Ministry Investigates How 2,000 Unfit Soldiers Ended Up in Military Unit, Says Military Ombudsman
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry is currently conducting an investigation to determine how approximately 2,000 mobilized individuals, likely unfit for military service, were assigned to a military unit. This alarming revelation was made by military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova during an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is actively investigating a troubling incident involving the assignment of around 2,000 mobilized individuals, who are believed to be unfit for military service, to one of its military units. Military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova disclosed this information in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
Reshetilova explained that a complex verification process is currently underway within the military unit to identify the reasons behind the mass arrival of soldiers who do not meet the necessary requirements for service. She emphasized that the number of individuals involved, approximately two thousand, raises significant concerns regarding the mobilization and medical examination processes.
The military ombudsman pointed out that representatives from the Ministry of Defense and the command of the Ground Forces are involved in the verification process. This is crucial to determine at which stage the violations occurred—whether during the operations of territorial recruitment centers, the work of military medical commissions, within the military unit itself, or at higher decision-making levels.
"This is indeed a massive violation that cannot simply be acknowledged. The unit has two thousand servicemen who are unfit for military service. The question is how this was even allowed to happen in the first place," Reshetilova added, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
This incident has raised alarms not only among military personnel but also within society, as it calls into question the effectiveness of the mobilization system and the medical examinations conducted on conscripts. It is imperative that the relevant authorities take corrective actions to address the shortcomings in this area to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Earlier, the Office of the Military Ombudsman announced that during its initial phase of operations, a first deputy head would be appointed, and three key departments would be established. The structure of the Office may change depending on the workload and the need for oversight regarding the rights of servicemen.
This situation also highlights the importance of proper preparation and verification of mobilized individuals, as their health and the effectiveness of combat operations are at stake. Society expects transparency from the Ministry of Defense in conducting these verifications and readiness to take necessary measures to rectify the situation.
