Lviv Opens First Municipal Supported Living House for People with Disabilities

A significant milestone was achieved in Lviv with the opening of the first municipal supported living house for individuals with disabilities, as reported by the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity, according to Ukrinform.

The city of Lviv has marked a historic opening with the launch of its first municipal supported living house designed for people with disabilities. This facility is a pioneering initiative in Ukraine, aimed at creating the most comfortable living conditions for individuals with disabilities, closely resembling a home environment.

The newly established house has the capacity to accommodate up to 20 residents at a time. The primary concept of this facility is to provide residents with the opportunity to actively engage in familiar activities, attend workshops, participate in daytime programs, and enjoy various cultural events within the city. This initiative is expected to not only enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities but also promote their social integration.

Currently, four individuals with disabilities are already residing in the facility free of charge. They receive comprehensive meals, assistance with personal hygiene and daily living activities, as well as health monitoring. Additionally, a daily routine and leisure activities have been organized for the residents. This arrangement will offer their families a much-needed respite from constant caregiving at home, which is a crucial aspect of supporting families.

The municipal house offers two primary social services. The first is temporary respite for parents or guardians of adults with disabilities. This service allows caregivers to leave their charges under proper care for up to 30 days a year, with a minimum stay of 10 consecutive days. To access this service, caregivers must apply to social protection authorities with the necessary documentation confirming their identity, health status, and caregiving responsibilities. After assessing the needs, specialists will create an individual care plan.

The second service provided at the house is permanent supported living. This service is intended for individuals with disabilities who have lost their parents or guardians, or who are at risk of losing such support. The house can accommodate up to 10 residents permanently, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance and support.

It is also noteworthy that the Lviv region will receive over 52 million UAH in state subsidies for housing for internally displaced persons. A key requirement for application is that the properties must be in municipal or state ownership (or leased). This reflects the growing attention to the social needs of the population and the government's commitment to providing comfortable conditions for all citizens.
